It was for the first time that I saw Doug's
guitar play with the Japanese artist.
This
show was TV Asahi 25th anniversary
and the
special show with Hanoi Rocks. Doug
came back to Tokyo right after the
Whitesnake
tour, and started rehearsing for Mr.
Sera
+ Twist International. He rehearsed
a lot for the show, so I looked forward
to
seeing the great show. When the
light
off, the stage was lighted up. The
band members got together and the show
started.
The drummer was Chris Frazier
who had
played for Burning Rain's Japan tour
in 1999.
The other guitarist was Marty
Friedman.
The opening song was "Hikigane
(Trigger)". Most Japanese
who
is in the middle age know this song.
Masanori
Sera was popular when I was a child,
and
he made some hit songs. I still
remember
the lyrics. It looked something
strange
that Doug played behind him. Doug
was
the most remarkable with his blond
hair,
height, cool guitar play. He
always
stands on the right side. "Yadonashi
(Homeless)", "Saga",
... they
played hit songs. Doug changed
Les
Paul to Telecaster on "Soppo",
and played the slide guitar. The
next
was the new song called "Shonen
(A Boy)".
Masanori Sera didn't look different
so much from the old days, but he looked
cool. Roy Z who was the guitarist
for
Tribe Of Gypsies joined on the song
"Anta
No Ballad (A Ballad For You)".
Doug
played the slide guitar again on the
song
"Rolling 16". They
played
"Moero Ii Onna (Hot Great Woman)"
in Encore. It had been famous
on TV commercial. Their show
was about
1 hour. It was very different
from
the Whitesnake show, and I felt the
difference
between the Japanese rock and the American
one. It was fun! I felt
Doug
was playing in a relaxed mood. I'm
sure that many fans of Masanori Sera
became
a fan of Doug. Doug said this
show
was funny. I agree with him.
I
think it was a hard work for Doug.
He
had to learn the songs for this show
for
a short time right after the Whitesnake
tour.
He always does a great job even
if
he's in the difficult situation. He's
a really great guitar player. He's
fantastic! I really look forward
to
seeing him again soon.
Doug's long Japan tour ended. Thank you so much for everything, Doug! I had a great time with you ... you are always in my heart. |
