LION
June 13, 1988 - Nakano Sunplaza

LionThe venue was opened at 6:00 p.m. and the show started at 6:30 p.m.  The fans had stood in a line from the entrance.  The pamphlet and the poster were sold inside but it was so crowded.

My seat was the fourth row from the back of the first floor and it was hard to see the stage.  The hall had become pitch-black, but the show didn’t start soon.  At last the band members appeared on the stage.  The first song seemed to be a new song.  The live had the composition of having added cover songs to the songs from the albums, "Powerlove" and "Dangerous Attraction."  It continued with "Hard And Heavy", "After The Fire", "Armed And Dangerous", and "Fatal Attraction."  Kal is one of my favorite singers, and his vocal was powerful.  Mark’s drum solo was also great.  He reminded me of Tommy Aldridge (Whitesnake) I had just seen on the 11th.  He said he was influenced by Tommy in the interview or something.  Doug’s guitar was also clean and it was nearly perfectly faithful to the record.  His guitar play was clean and exact and it was very impressive.  I haven’t seen any new guitarist who has such a great technique and talent.  Lion’s show is only one time, but his guitar sound was very good.  Although it was regrettable that I couldn’t see him close, his guitar sounded the whole hall beautifully.  Whenever it became the guitar solo of Doug, the audience gave a shout of joy.  "One Night In Tokyo" which they had made for the Japanese fan was very heavy.  Kal said “Ichi, ni, san” in Japanese.  It continued with "Never Surrender" and "Shout It Out", and the audience sang together on the chorus part.  Three big lights were illuminating the back seat.  For a while, the band left and the audience wanted the encore.  The band appeared again.  Doug changed his clothes into the white jacket from the black jacket.  The first song of the encore is "Powerlove" as expected.  When Doug played the intro, the audience was excited.  Kal’s vocal was great.  The guitar solo on this song is beautiful so that it may flow.  The last number seemed to be a cover song, but the audience still sang in chorus.  I wanted them to play more times, because they are a really great band.  I’m sure that they will become a big band in the future.
